Madam, - For years I've wondered what the "two fingers" sculpture outside AIB's headquarters represented. Any ideas? - Yours, etc.,

Madam, - So, what exactly is it that auditors do? - Yours, etc.,

Madam, - AIB: "Alice in Bungleland"? - Yours, etc.,

Madam, - I believe the resignation of Michael Soden as chief executive of the Bank of Ireland should not have been accepted by the board. We should take an Irish approach to such issues, not follow American models just because they lead the way in such issues.
The key spirit of American law and corporate behaviour is a black-and-white view: you are either guilty or innocent, with no room for understanding of personal frailty or the full personal circumstances. This has fed into our corporate governance guidelines and if we are not careful it will feed through to other aspects of our lives as well.
I believe the board of Bank of Ireland fully understand the prevalent male weaknesses in our and other societies, but allowed a good man to go so that the good name of the bank would be maintained.
Let's understand human frailty and stop the influx of the nasty side of American culture. Those moralistic right-wingers are a dangerous lot. - Yours, etc.,
FRANK CRONIN, Sandycove, Co Dublin.
