Lead in water supplies

Sir, – I read with trepidation of Irish Water's proposals to add orthophosphate to water supplies nationally ("Views sought on adding chemical to water to combat lead", August 12th).

It seems ludicrous to me that the pilot project for such action is being introduced in Limerick in September and yet the public consultation for these measures will not open until the end of the year.

What are concerned citizens to do in the meantime?

Just unquestioningly swallow the medicine that Irish Water is prescribing as a solution to the presence of lead in pipes nationally? – Yours, etc,
