PAUL MC GUILL,
Sir, - The latest Irish Times/MRBI opinion poll showed Michael Noonan's personal rating at 31 per cent - six percentage points lower than John Bruton's 37 per cent rating which sparked the push against his leadership.
At the height of the campaign to shift Mr Bruton, Jim Mitchell told readers of this newspaper: "John Burton is like a weak currency which can no longer be propped up. Weak as the Bruton currency is throughout the country, in Dublin it is weaker than the Russian rouble." (The Irish Times, January 29th, 2001).
One year on, one can only wonder with what currency Mr Mitchell now equates Michael Noonan's leadership. How about the Angolan kwanza or the Argentine peso?- Yours, etc.
