Sir, – If the international baccalaureate exam is to take the place of the Leaving Cert ("Plan for international students to sit baccalaureate instead of Leaving Cert", August 12th) then it must be able to answer the following questions: Is the baccalaureate exam as good as the Leaving Cert in getting students to describe the things that they can understand and to memorise the things that they can not understand? Do you get extra marks for taking an exam in Irish? Is it possible to suspend the continual assessment section of the exam for all the lads on the senior rugby team until they are knocked out of the Senior Cup? – Yours, etc,
