Sir, - In your "Expert Opinion" column (June 6th) Dr Margaret Kelleher, hailing the new Leaving Cert syllabus in English as a "wise combination of the old and the new, informs your readers that contrary to rumour and controversy Shakespeare is still with us".
In fact, honours students need only include Shakespeare as one of a meaninglessly generalised comparison including such "texts" as, for example, Kevin Costner's Dances with Wolves.
Is this what Dr Kelleher considers "wise"?
Remarkably, I can recall no public "controversy" over any of this. - Yours, etc.,
