Sir, – As a fourth-year student, I was shocked to hear of the recent reforms made to the Leaving Certificate points system ("Leaving Cert overhaul: out with A, B, C in with 1, 2, 3", April 29th). From an exam candidate's point of view, these reforms make zero sense.
A student that gets 40 per cent in an exam will receive the same points as someone who achieves 49 per cent. And why? In order to “take pressure off students”. Perhaps if the Department of Education had asked students whether this would “take the pressure off”, it would have realised how wrong it was.– Yours, etc,
JONATHON BOYLAN,
