Madam, - I am so used to seeing your correspondents misspell "breaches" that, when I read of "breeches in the health service" (as I did last week), I no longer instinctively assume that the Tánaiste has sent in the cavalry.
But now your man in Transylvania has come up with a new one: the cyanide leech that extracts gold (Oct 26th). This is not an unkind reference to hospital consultants but to something that apparently can develop in tailings pools. If this creature retains the blood-sucking tendencies we associate with Transylvania, every effort must be made to prevent it spreading. It would be a disaster if it were imported into Ireland, along with all those illegal fireworks, as a Halloween horror treat! - Yours, etc.,
MICHAEL DRURY, Avenue Louise, Brussels.
