A chara, - In his column "What of those in non-sexual relationships" (Opinion, May 15th) Martin Mansergh states: "Someone can belong to the church of Archbishop Lefébvre, and still be kind and tolerant..."

Partly true. Ach tá beagán dul amú ar Mhartin. Kind and tolerant, yes. But there is and never was a church of Archbishop Lefébvre. The Archbishop resisted the changes which were introduced following the second Vatican Council.

In other words he and his "supporters" remained faithful to the traditional teaching of the Catholic Church as it had been for 2,000 years. His "supporters" were not his supporters, but likewise supporters of Catholic tradition and teaching.

In 1970 the Archbishop founded the Society of St Pius X to preserve the "old" Latin Mass and the teaching of the Church. This society was founded with proper Church approval.
