Sir, - I would agree with my colleague, Dr Jim McDaid, that diamorphine (heroin) should be legalised. It is a legal drug in Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales and is most useful in heart attacks and in the care of the dying.
It is most interesting that on the same day in the Seanad that Senator Dr Mary Henry commented that the profits from illegal dealings in heroin stands at least £175 million.
It is a sad reflection on Irish society that a drug which is widely available is not available to those who need it i.e., heart attack victims and the dying. - Yours, etc., former Vice-Chairman,
