Madam, - We have a Government of extraordinary talents. Its members have the ability to create a crisis where none exists, e.g. the citizenship referendum, and by the same token make the real crises vanish from their agenda - health, poverty, housing.
The have displayed remarkable courage in tackling powerful self-interest groups such as asylum-seekers, the poor, widows, while finding time to be compassionate and caring for the weakest in our society - racehorse owners, developers, millionaire investors who have been forced to flee the country and seek refuge in countries such as Portugal.
Their wisdom in penalising the public with bin charges, instead of the manufacturers who produce excess packaging, is in keeping with these remarkable skills. So in June perhaps the public might take the opportunity to use the ballot box to give a big hand to our wise leaders. - Yours, etc.,
JOHN HANAMY, Lower Mountpleasant Avenue, Rathmines, Dublin 6.
