Madam, – As regards the possibility that Myles/Brian/Flann may have conducted correspondence with himself (Frank McNally’s An Irishman’s Diary, December 17th), one admits that the Master may have briefly indulged such an idiosyncrasy in his Brother Barnabas days. His more mature attitude, however, may be discerned from his reaction to a small ad wherein “Workman, sober, industrious, wishes to share room with same – reasonable rent offered”.
Myles posed the query in the Cruiskeen: “How sober can you be if you insist on paying good money to share a room with yourself?” – Yours, etc,
