Sir, - In the interview (February 6th) with Dr Pat Donlon, Director of the National Library, she is described as "having initiated much needed technical innovations to guide the library into the 20th century."

In the mid-20th century - and later - when I was a regular reader, the library was open 10 am-10 pm Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays until 1 pm. It now closes Monday to Wednesday at 9 pm and Thursday and Friday at 5 pm. Why is the public deprived of the essential facilities which it once enjoyed? Yours, etc.,
