Madam, - May I bring a very serious flaw in the firearms law to the attention of the nation?
Farmers all around the country have guns; some of these are very old and licences for these lethal weapons are handed out like "snuff at a wake".
Six months ago, I lost my brother as a result of a tragic accident with an old gun which should not have been in use. In my opinion, all guns should be checked by gardaí before they issue a licence.
I can't drive my car without it passing the NCT. I can't get a driving licence at 70 without a health check and eye test; yet guns are far more lethal and are rarely checked.
I would appeal to the Minister for Justice not to allow any other family suffer the loss and pain that myself and my family have suffered. - Yours, etc.,
