Madam, - May I correct Gabrielle Kelly (August 19th)?
Joe Cahill did not sacrifice most of his lifetime in British prisons. In his 84-year lifetime he spent from July 1942 to October 1949 in a British prison, Crumlin Road. Later he was detained in an Irish prison, Mountjoy Jail, from May 1973 to January 1975.
Ms Kelly should read Brendan Anderson's book Joe Cahill, a Life in the IRA. - Yours, etc.,
