Madam, - We note that Co Roscommon has the longest life expectancy for both men and women in the Republic ( The Irish Times, August 13th). This statistic suggests an excellent level of healthcare in the county.
Other counties, however, may not need to be envious for too long, because by the time the next census takes place the effects of the downgrading of Roscommon County Hospital and the night-time closure of the AE department may well have had a significant effect on the life expectancy of people in the county. - Yours, etc,
