Sir, - In response to Tom Farrell's question (December 14th) as to whose authority allowed a giant box of chocolates to be placed in the Liffey at O'Connell Bridge, may I suggest that it is the same authority that some weeks ago allowed the city centre traffic to be thrown into greater chaos than usual so that an English football club could open a merchandising shop in Westmoreland Street.
Or am I wrong? Are the choccies-in-the-sludge a cultural nudge to remind us that what we celebrate at Christmas now is not the birth of Jesus but the miraculous ability of blow-ups to walk upon the water? - Yours, etc,
Tony Hickey, Strand Road, Dublin 4.
