Sir, - Travelling by car along the south quays the other evening I had an (all too lengthy) opportunity to view the new lighting displays on the Liffey bridges. Having done so I felt I had to write to find if others shared my opinion of the poor standard of the displays.
There seems to have been no attempt made to co-ordinate the lighting designs on the bridges other than to use the same garish green colour throughout. Also, the positioning of brightly coloured lights under the soffits of the bridges has the effect of throwing their parapets into darkness and thus, visually, the bridges lose their shape.
In recent years beautiful lighting displays have been installed at some of the nation's most famous buildings - the Rock of Cashel springs immediately to mind - but that fact highlights how disappointing this latest venture has been. - Yours, etc.,
Ciaran Browne, Abbey Drive, Dublin 7.
