Sir, - I share the intrigue of Dr Michael Scott (January 30th) at the promotional slogan used by Griffith College: "Meet 2,500 people who think like you". It seems to offer an education for automatons.
I was, however, disappointed to observe that a prominent academic institute had adopted a slogan with a glaring grammatical error, and further saddened that the error was repeated without correction by the good doctor from Dublin City University. "People who think like you," should read: "People who think as you ". The rule is: "as" a verb, and "like" a noun.
It is amazing that advertising copywriters who lack basic skills in English can find clients among those who would give example to future generations. - Yours, etc.,
