Madam, – Gay Mitchell claims that the vast majority of TDs and Senators believe that the Lisbon Treaty is good for Ireland (June 19th). May I respectfully suggest that they are wrong, and that the people, in their wisdom, pointed this out last June.
Mr Mitchell’s letter implies that somehow politicians are wiser than the ordinary voter. The voters took their decision in the best interests of the country. Politicians, at least in some cases, act in the best interests of their careers. – Yours, etc,
