Sir, – We have been hearing a great deal about reform of local government recently. Let me share my experience of this.
As a member of my local residents’ association I have been working to get our estate taken in charge.
Living in Naas, I contacted Naas Town Council (NTC). NTC informed me this was the responsibility of Kildare County Council (KCC). On contacting KCC I was informed this was in fact the responsibility of NTC and furthermore that it had asked NTC to stop saying it was the responsibility of KCC. I was then referred to a more senior official who has not responded to a registered letter or returned any phone calls.
When I received the letter about my local property tax, I paid it the very same day as I believe we should pay our taxes for our local services. Now, however, I feel like a fool for paying up promptly and being blackguarded in this fashion. – Yours, etc,
