Lock up TV, not owner

Sir, – Once more the issue of overcrowding in prisons has been mentioned in the news

Sir, – Once more the issue of overcrowding in prisons has been mentioned in the news. It has also been reported that people who don’t pay fines for not having TV licences are imprisoned.

Surely it would make more sense to confiscate the TV rather than putting the owner in prison? Keeping a TV on a shelf would cost far less than full board for the owner and would also free up prison cells. – Yours, etc,
