Sir, – I write to you to express disappointment in the service experienced on the Dart recently. My wife and I had intended travelling to Howth on the train from Glenageary station at 14:40. This is a journey we take at least once a week.
When the train arrived, the destination indicator on the front of the train stated “Malahide”.
In spite of the unexpected information, we took the train anyway. During the journey into Dublin, all the announcements stated that “This train is for Malahide”. Now I was convinced that we were on the wrong train. We decided to get off at Pearse Station and wait there for a train that “really was” for Howth.
When the information panel at the station showed me that the next train would arrive in 28 minutes, I realised the train we had been on had in fact been the train to Howth.
It appeared that the driver had taken the train all the way from Bray to Pearse Station and probably even as far as Howth, all the time showing and telling passengers and potential passengers alike that this train is “for Malahide”.
Anyone arriving for The Gathering, beware! My wife and I live in Dublin and we have taken this journey many times before. If we are confused by this nonsense, what can a stranger to our city make of this? We abandoned our journey, sadder but wiser.
The pleasures of Howth are for another day.– Yours, etc,
