Madam, – Frank McNally (An Irishman’s Diary, July 15th) highlighted the lack of songs about rain by our country’s esteemed musicians. It would seem it was left to our great literary tradition instead. Myles Na Gopaleen, I think, more than covered the subject in his masterpiece An Béal Bocht: “I considered buying a hat as shelter against the rain but decided that no hat existed which would last five minutes undamaged and unrotted by the edge of the weather”. – Yours, etc,
