Sir, - Kevin Myers (December 15th) is quite right when he describes language loss as "a calamity not merely for the culture involved, but for the stock of human wisdom". With so many millennial projects these days, how is it that nobody thought of a six-part, one-hour TV series on the history of the Irish language and its literature?

If packaged in video format with an accompanying book, what an excellent educational resource it would make, for students and adults alike, and might it not spur us all to avoid that "calamity" which your diarist sees as inevitable? - Yours, etc.,
