'Lost generation' finds its way

Madam, – I am one of the thousands of Irish graduates living in London

Madam, – I am one of the thousands of Irish graduates living in London. “The Lost Generation” is often depicted as a tragic tale of how the most educated, bright and talented youth in our nation’s history have had their future ruined by greedy bankers and incompetent politicians. But our tale is one of two halves.

I was proud to read the many stories of successful Irish people who have made impressive careers and lives for themselves (“London’s Irish” Special Report, January 27th). It provides hope for the thousands of Irish graduates who will continue to leave Ireland’s shores over the coming years and hopefully instil in them a sense of self-worth and ambition. Your reports prove career opportunities exist. I know many Irish graduates living in London who are working in various industries from the media and health to law and engineering. My advice to any young graduate thinking of leaving Ireland in search of work is to remain positive and persistent. Your efforts will pay off. – Yours, etc,
