Sir, – Have the Minister for Transport Paschal Donohoe and his department "flown a kite" as to the likely outcome of the National Transport Authority (NTA) north Dublin study ("Luas link to airport likeliest alternative to Metro North", April 16th)? It looks like a Luas extension through Finglas is going to be the winner.
It is abundantly clear, to even the merest scrutiny, that this cannot solve the problems at hand. An extended Luas can serve many local trips but will be too slow for airport travellers who want direct, express services.
Swords is one of many outlying towns where most of the country’s population growth will take place, probably for the next half century. A viable, sustainable transport network is badly needed, serving not just Swords, but all these fast-growing towns.
The NTA should be reminded that if you ask the wrong question, you are not likely to get a right answer. – Yours, etc,
