Sir, - As a lover of classical music I was looking forward to our new music station Lyric FM coming on stream. Having listened to this station more or less daily since May 1st, I have lamented the passing of FM3 as a serious music station, broadcasting excellent music without advertisement breaks, or "disc jockeys". The pity was it had to share its time with Raidio na Gaeltachta.
The output from Lyric FM is "yellow pack" music, which can be heard in any shopping centre, lift, or supermarket. How could a serious music station play the first movement of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, or the second movement of a Schubert masterpiece and leave the rest of the work to take in news or an ad break!
Please, Lyric, let us have more "complete" works, and stop the three to five minute "pop format". - Yours, etc., Vincent Devlin,
