Sir, I was intrigued to read a mother's complaint about the price of "Made in Vietnam" sweatshop runners in your E&L supplement as I had just finished reading an article, on the Internet on the very same subject. Essentially this report was a summary of press reports in the Sydney Morning Herald and the New York Times. It stated that the daily pay of the women who manufacture these runners is less than enough to buy three square meals, that they are not given adequate water to drink while working, are limited to two toilet breaks per shift, are subject to sexual harassment and even corporal punishment. The runners retail for as much as $180 dollars in the USA. Unsurprisingly, a consumer led campaign is underway with the rather catchy slogan "Justice do it".
