Madam, - What a bumper Irish solution to Irish issues of sexuality in your edition of August 24th: the latest injustice done to the Magdalen women, whose identities have been wiped from accessible records; Angela MacNamara expressing concern about what she perceives as the "gross illustrations" in a sex education text; and Father Ingoldsby linking whales and foetuses.
One cannot but reflect that, had they had access to unambiguous sex education booklets, had contraceptives been legal, had it been possible to choose whether to continue their pregnancies or to seek terminations, so many Magdalen women might have avoided the extreme punishment imposed on them by a misogynistic Church and State. - Yours, etc.,
SANDRA McEVOY, Douglas Road, Cork.
