PATRICIA DALY,
Sir, - Anne-Marie Dolan (October 2nd) makes a very valid point on the need to change people's perception of the Mass. Perhaps, too, we need to change the phraseology we use. Even devout people sometimes talk of "getting" or "catching" Mass (like an unreliably-scheduled train?), suggesting something to be got over. Better to think and speak of not just the priest, but everyone, "celebrating" Mass.
We look forward to a celebration, enjoy taking an active part in it, and we talk about it with pleasure afterwards. - Yours, etc.,
PATRICIA DALY, Home Farm Road, Drumcondra, Dublin 9.
