Madam, – The Government is said to have to continue making difficult decisions.
I suggest that it cut Government expenditure in order to make Government in Ireland more competitive.
Here is an implementation schedule for this decision. Before we get the usual waffle about commissions to sit on this, please remember that the bank guarantee was implemented over a weekend.
1. Cancel all driver services for ministers immediately and issue vouchers (limited to two journeys per day worked) available for public transport. 2. Cancel all mileage allowances. One senator has pointed out they are too complex for public representatives to understand. 3. Ground the Government jets and negotiate a package deal by tender (shortlist BMI, Aer Lingus, Ryanair, etc). 4. Schedule a referendum for July 2010 to reduce the total number of TDs to 66, giving parity of representation with England and Poland.
No excuses, no waffle, since every disadvantaged person in the country has already contributed to the banks in the biggest ever transfer of wealth I expect in the world. In the words of the Taoiseach (paraphrased) it is time for patriotism. – Yours, etc,
