A chara, – Noel Whelan's view is that we need more "emotional engagement" and "personal stories" in this debate ("Marriage equality referendum campaign: it's time to get personal," February 20th). I would disagree. How does one debate someone else's personal story or argue with their emotions? Both sides think they have a case to make in relation to this issue; let them stick to the facts and discuss those, respectfully listening to the other side even when they vehemently disagree.
When people do otherwise I tend to wonder how strong a case they actually have. – Is mise, Revd PATRICK G BURKE Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny.
