Sir, - I share many of the feelings expressed by the Rev David Frazer (December 29th) in relation to Dean McCarthy's public statements on Mass at St Patrick's Cathedral.
Clearly, the extension of shared buildings between the churches is a very desirable objective and some progress has already been made. I do not believe, however, that further significant progress can be achieved by public statements such as that made by Dean McCarthy, no matter how well intended.
Continued and patient dialogue between differing Christian Churches is still required to gain recognition and acceptance of their differences. The goal is worthwhile. Too many wars and barbaric acts have taken place in the name of religion. - Yours, etc., Brian Walsh,
Rathdown Park, Terenure, Dublin 6W.
