Sir, – One of the greatest experiences for fans of sports is seeing long-standing records fall, with new standards thus being reached. That Rocky Marciano’s record of 49 straight victories has been surpassed after more than half a century should be one such moment. It seems a hollow achievement though, with the 50th win coming against a complete novice to the sport, and a somewhat meaningless way to break such an established record. – Yours, etc,
