McCartney's Burden

Sir, - Once again I feel I must speak up for Mr Robert McCartney MP. On a previous occasion I sympathised with him for having to sit in stoic silence while a section of his supporters sang with a gusto a song which included the words, "We're up to our necks in Fenian blood". As I pointed out at the time, this must have been very difficult for a selfconfessed non-sectarian like Mr McCartney. But now a further indignity has been heaped upon him. Four members of his party wish to stay in the assembly to which they have been elected when their leader has decided that the party should withdraw. Can these "pygmy politicians" not understand that Mr McCartney already has a seat in Westminster and therefore will be perfectly able to represent the entire party and its electorate on his own? The trouble with being a really intelligent politician in Northern Ireland is that there are so few people who operate at your level. - Yours, etc.Robin Glendinning,Watch Hill,Island Reagh,Comber,Co Down.
