Madam, - In your Editorial on decentralisation (August 2nd), you say that by September Mr McCreevy "will be preparing to represent Ireland in Brussels". Surely not.
When he becomes a member of the European Commission, he will take an oath not to act on behalf of his country of origin. I hope you don't expect him to forswear himself by purporting to represent Ireland.
That task is performed excellently by Ms Anne Anderson and her colleagues in the Irish Permanent Representation, and by the various ministers who attend Council meetings. - Yours, etc.,
