Madam, - Matters published in the Irish Daily Star, the national newspaper I am proud to edit, are lawful. This is in sharp contrast to the criminal behaviour of failed public servant Deputy Dr James McDaid.

Dr McDaid is a disgrace. And it's not me who says so. These are his own words - about himself: "I'm a disgrace, ashamed, an idiot and embarrassed." That's what Dr McDaid said after his criminal conviction for drink driving and dangerous driving at Naas District Court, on Wednesday, October 12th, 2005.

This conviction followed one of his drunken binges. Having consumed more than three times the legal alcohol limit, Dr McDaid endangered his own life and, still worse, the lives of many others, by driving his car on public roads - including driving the wrong way along the dual-carriageway between Naas and Newbridge in Co Kildare.

And he has the cheek to describe me as nauseating in the extreme! - Yours, etc,
