Sir, - Maebh Cheasty (December 28th) added a refreshing note to the current debate on the subject. She hit the nail on the head when she contrasted the dictionary definition of feminism, "advocacy of equal rights for women", with the chauvinistic policies of the feminist movement.

The vast majority of men, at least in the Western world, would support the genuine aspirations of women to gain equal rights, where absent. They would, however, vehemently oppose any usurpation of their own rights in order to satisfy a chauvinistic feminist agenda. The feminist movement in its present form should be seen for what it is: chauvinistic and anti-male, having as its objective the domination of the male gender through the reconstruction of his masculinity, among other subtle means. - Yours, etc.,
