Sir, – Denis O'Brien seems to regret he ignored his friend's advice not to bother buying anything in Ireland ("I have never experienced this level of hatred", Comment, June 2nd).

I too would wish that he had heeded his friend’s advice. – Yours, etc,

JOE HACKETT,

Dalkey, Co Dublin.

Sir, – The tears rolled down my face while reading Denis O’Brien’s article.

As I reached for the tissue box, which was sitting on a copy of the Moriarty tribunal findings, I thought how ashamed we should be of ourselves. – Yours, etc,

JOHN CORRIGAN,

Palmerstown,

Dublin 20.

Sir, – Denis O’Brien gets an article and I can’t even get one-liners published. – Yours, etc,

AJ QUINN,

Limerick.

Sir, – Fintan O'Toole's piece on the public interest should be framed and displayed in every classroom in the nation ("Loud silence on public interest in Siteserv affair", Opinion & Analysis, June 2nd). – Yours, etc,

TONY WOOL,

Ballincollig,

Co Cork.
