Sir, – Congratulations to The Irish Times for publishing Vincent Browne's cogent analysis (Opinion, August 14th) on why Denis O'Brien should not be entrusted with such extensive media power.
The silence from O’Brien’s INM and commercial radio outlets on his Murdochian ambitions are depressing, if intelligible. But why has RTÉ failed to robustly tackle this thorny issue?
Surely his widening writ does not run in Pat Rabbitte’s fiefdom too, via Fine Gael? But proof that it does not so run would be best provided by Labour breaking its long silence and calling for urgent legislation to curb the media monopolies. – Yours, etc,
