Medical Cards For Over-70s

Sir, - I am 71. I am not affluent but have a State pension sufficient to buy health insurance. I would much rather the Minister for Health, Mr Martin, would look after young families who have difficulty affording health care, rather than provide me with a medical card. I am sure very many in my age group feel the same.

I think Mr Martin is working hard to improve the Health Service, but with so many areas needing attention I do not understand the logic of this proposal. Even if I am completely selfish about this, it is better, in the long-run, for me and my elderly age-group, that all the young families in the community should be healthy and well-cared for. It makes for a better quality of life all round. - Yours, etc.,
