A chara, - After surgery for breast cancer last July, I was advised by my friends in London to contact the medical oncologist for my area. I was surprised to find that the Southern Health Board does not employ a medical oncologist. I was even more surprised to find, after further investigation, that while funds have been available for nearly two years, the post has not, as yet, been advertised. There is no excuse or plausible explanation for this lack of action on the part of the Southern Health Board.
I have nothing but praise for the skill, care and cheerful industry shown by the surgeons, doctors, nurses and staff of Tralee General Hospital, and those in the radiotherapy department of Cork University Hospital. The treatment I received from them is second to none and they deserve to have the support of a medical oncologist and a great deal more help and appreciation from the Southern Health Board. - Is mise,
