Sir, - Nothing pleased me more to read than your welcome report of the meeting of representatives of world religions, including Buddhists and Muslims, called by the Pope to pray for peace and an end to terrorism. This was a heartwarming story, a candle lit in a dark, threatening world.
And what more fitting place than Assisi, the birthplace of the gentle St Francis, who devoted his life to the lepers and beggars of Italy? Let us sing a canticle of joy over this happy and timely initiative by the wise and aged Pontiff. - Yours, etc.,
