Merrion Square park not so leafy

A chara, – I am in total agreement with John Devlin in his comments regarding Merrion Square (May 20th). What was once a refuge from the glare of the city now stands as a naked space devoid of low-level shrubbery and nesting sites for smaller birds.

All that can be heard over the noise of traffic is the cackle of the large population of magpies.

One of the gardeners told me that the clearing was been done to appease the authorities so that gardaí could easily survey the park from outside.
