Sir, - A fond memory I have of Michael O'Hehir was the 1951 Aintree Grand National.
When the commentary was transferred to him, he said with great pleasure: "Pardon my Irish brogue, but Royal Tan (trained in Ireland by Vincent O'Brien) is going exceptionally well." As it turned out, Royal Tan blundered his chance away at the last fence with the race at his mercy.
Three years later, Royal Tan returned to Aintree and won the Grand National.
