Michael O’Leary and voting for ‘lunatics’

Sir, – I am surprised at the inconsistency of Michael O'Leary in favouring candidates of the established parties rather than Independents ("Politicians react to O'Leary swipe at vote for 'lunatics' ", April 16th). Usually he prefers people who bring less baggage with them. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Michael O’Leary need have no fears about the “lunatic” Independents, etc, that the people chose to represent them.

If recent mutterings from that quarter are anything to go by, following the prospect of a place at the cabinet table being dangled before them, many have begun to sound very much like Labour Party TDs did five years ago as they ditched their “social justice” agenda, and reneged on their pre-election manifesto, to accommodate a right-of-centre coalition. The “lunatics” who enter government will no doubt be just as zealous in defending the interests of the privileged as Labour was. Mudguards can do little else. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Having heard his broadcast and read the following comments in the newspapers, I have only one comment: Michael O’Leary for taoiseach. – Yours, etc,
