Sir, - The Catholic Pro-Cathedral in Marlborough Street, Dublin was originally planned in the early 1800s for the site where the GPO now stands in O'Connell Street. But the British authorities and Dublin Corporation would not allow a Catholic church to be built in any prominent position.

Now, almost 200 years later, Dublin Corporation and an Irish Government, under the leadership of Fianna Fail's Bertie Ahern, have rejected requests to mark the millennium and 2,000 years of Christianity with any kind of Christian symbol in O'Connell Street or at any other prominent site in Dublin.

After all this time, nothing has changed! - Yours, etc.
