Sure wasn't the Eiffel Tower derided when it was erected in 1889? A 19th-century, unique design of Meccano-type iron girders is now the epitome of all that is wonderful about Paris. In time the 21st-century spike will surely become the same kind of attraction in Dublin.

If I could be cloned I'd love to be around to witness the reaction to it spike 112 years on, in 2113.
