A chara, - The ongoing "Villagate" controversy is testament to nothing so much as that most nasty and persistent of Irish vices - begrudgery. Despite our much-heralded maturity, wealth and development as a nation, we still can't stand to see someone doing better than ourselves.
Does anyone honestly believe the reaction would have been so frenzied had the location been a modest bungalow in Connemara rather than a sumptuous villa in the South of France?
Mr McCreevy is perfectly right - it is no-one's damn business where he spends his private holiday. Well done once again for straight talking, Charlie. - Is mise,
