Sir, – Senator Ivana Bacik writes (January 17th) that "sensible and proportionate legal limits may be placed on free speech in every democracy". That is to say, she believes a majority (which will always see itself as "sensible and proportionate") may prevent a minority from communicating its views to the people, so that they will go to the polls unaware of differing views and unable to make an informed choice between them.
